ABOUT THE FILM:
Love has no borders and herein lies the premise of this hilarious new Iranian-American romantic comedy, Shirin in Love. Nazanin Boniadi plays Shirin, an absent-minded, young Iranian-American living in "Tehrangeles" (the largest Iranian community in Los Angeles), with her overbearing mother and empathetic father. Despite being engaged to a successful Iranian plastic surgeon from Beverly Hills, Shirin finds herself breaking loyalty and tradition when she falls in love with a mysterious young man living in a lighthouse in Northern California. As her secret unravels and cultures clash, Shirin discovers what it ultimately means to be true to herself and follow her heart.
The character of Shirin initially studies law as it was expected of her. But dreams of becoming a writer drive our heroine to break with tradition. Her struggle represents that of a vast majority of young Iranians in the US who must choose between their cultural traditional values and their own individuality in a modern society. I’m sure that many of you can relate to her character and what she goes through in order to keep a balance between the two cultures.
